Post-Jam: Reflection and Future of the Project
I have to say I was proud of what I was able to achieve in such a short time. Whilst there are many things that I wish I had done differently, it was a valuable learning experience, which clearly demonstrated to myself my own limitations as a developer and designer.
After getting feedback from fellow jammers, I see both the weaknesses and strengths of this project, and can see its potential if I were to continuously develop it into a full product.
Realistically, with several ongoing projects with tighter deadlines, I don't see the continued development of this project as a top priority, but I am keen to revisit it when I have more availability to resume it.
From feedback received, the game currently lacks levels and audio, and excels in simple mechanics and modularity. So I can see the potential for a level editor if the project advances to a certain point. Obviously, the top priority is more levels and better use of existing mechanics (I underutilised the temporary big portals in the final demo). This project could also be an excuse for me to learn proper music production skills, so I look forward to that.
While the future for this project is uncertain, I do consider it a milestone in my experience as a game developer. I look forward to revisiting this project, either to learn from it or to develop it further.
