Differences between V1, V2 and V3
Versions 1 and 2
These are earlier drafts where the class used an adaptation of the variant rule of Spell Points instead of spell slots. The Shaman would use spell points as the resource to cast spells, and had a unique method of recovering them. Unlike traditional spellcasters, who regain spell slots on rests, the Shaman recovers spell points by dealing and receiving magical damage. All of their class features work in tandem with this system in mind, allowing for aggressive cantrip and spell spamming playstyles.
Version 2 introduced the Shade Specter subclass, alongside minor formatting improvements, mechanical balancing, and spell list tweaks.
NOTE: The class at this stage is untested and was designed for 5E (2014), using the 5.1 SRD.
Version 3+
A completely revised version which swapped Spell Points for half-caster spell progression using spell slots. Class features were altered to accommodate the massive changes, and Mystic Attunements were revised and balanced following the balancing of core classes, referenced in the 5.2 SRD.
Version 3 removed the Draconic Sage, Dream Walker and Shade Specter Subclasses to prevent thematic and mechanical overlap with other classes and subclasses, but added the Limit Breaker subclass as a unique addition to the Shaman.
The class was playtested in 2 long-running 5E (2024) campaigns, and balancing changes will be implemented throughout the continued development of the class.
